How to talk to your child about their asthma

It is sometimes difficult to talk to children about asthma. It is very important that you encourage your child to ask you anything they want to know.

First of all read about asthma. Make sure you know as much as you can, so you can answer as many of their questions as you can. If there are any you cannot answer, it is important to write these questions down and take them to your next visit to see your GP or asthma nurse.

You are not alone. There are lots of amazing resources out there to help you to talk about asthma with your child. Below are just some of these.

Monkey wellbeing is a website providing child friendly materials to help reinforce key health messages, and engage with children, young people and their families living with asthma. It has lots of free materials and low cost resources like story books and activity packs.

Below is a video from Beat Asthma. This video shows how to explain asthma to young people.
